The Istrian peninsula was caught among the maritime empire of Venice and the landlocked Austro – Hungarian
empire and is an authentic treasure of ethnological , cultural and natural curoisities .
Explore the famous truffle area and olive groves of the backcountry .
Walk through Motovun that hides a former Venetian palace in the heart of the town , one of your accommodations .
Next up is a ride to the “City of Truffles”, Buzet and the next day your cycling is superb throughout as you head back towards Buje ,
through Moskat wine country and along the Slovenian border .
We book all your accommodation, transfer your luggage
and then provide you with route notes and maps in order to be independent .

ITINERARY

Day 1 : arrival in hotel Parenzana ;
Spend your first evening in the family owned *** Casa Romantica
Parenzana , accommodation , briefing and sorting out the bikes
Day 2 : PARENZANA – KLOSTAR ( about 50 kms ) ;
after crossing the Mirna river valley cycle through the country of the
white grape Malvazija through typical rolling landscape .
Klostar , your final destination is a small village sitting above the
hillsides of the Lim Channel .
Day 3 : KLOSTAR – GRACISCE ( about 65 kms ) ;
Cycle past the ruins of the medieval Dvigrad and through the town of
Svetvincenat , a jewel on your way amidst rolling hills .
Explore central Istria before reaching the climax ,
Gracisce , an old Slavic village . The beauty and singularity of cultural
and historical monuments located in the preserved landscape are the
greatest value of Gracisce .
Day 4 : GRACISCE – MOTOVUN ( about 60 kms ) ;
Make your way through the heart of Istria and pedal through rural
towns of Zminj and Sveti Petar . Climb to the Tinjan area homeland of
the superb smoked Istrian ham .
At the end of the day climb the medieval Motovun , the town where
former Formula 1 driver Mario Andretti was born in times of the Italian
occupation .
Day 5 : MOTOVUN – free day

Day 6 : MOTOVUN – BUZET ( about 45 kms )
Conquer some steep and tricky climbs in the morning to leave the
Motovun area . Enjoy some stunning views over Istria , passing oak
forests , olive groves and the Lake Butoniga .
Pass over the ridge and into the town of Buzet which is called „the
Town of truffles“ . The area features outstanding natural beauty and
traces of a glorious past .
Day 7 : BUZET – PARENZANA ( about 55 kms ) ;
In the morning pedal through two romantic river valleys , Bracana and
Mirna in order to reach the truffle area around Livade and before
climbing to the medieval Oprtalj for possible lunch .
Through some typical backroads country of Nothwestern Istria
to medieval Groznjan famous for its artists . Along some beautiful
vineyards and olive orchards before meeting once again with the
romantic rural hotel Parenzana for your farewell night .
Day 8 : after breakfast departure
